John Tona is a photographer based in New York City. He uses photographic portraiture to investigate human nature and consciousness. His work employs strategies ranging from social documentary, tableau and reinterpretations of the portrait.
His most recent and ongoing project, "(A)Typical Typology", depicts pairs of people from each country of the world without cultural elements such as clothing, jewelry, or other man-made products, leaving only the individual as the unique identifier. As a result, the lines of race and culture are de-emphasized, leaving us to consider the subjects more simply, as members of the human race.
